Vermi-Tea

Jory Organics Vermi-Tea bottles

Vermi-Tea is a liquid solution made by steeping vermicompost in water for about two weeks. At Jory Organics, we use a non-aerated brewing method that captures the benefits vermicompost in a liquid form, but with a longer shelf life than many other teas. Vermi-Tea is full of beneficial microorganisms, nutrients, and humic substances that promote soil health.

Follow the instructions below for best results.

Potted Plants

Vermi-Tea is a concentrated vermicompost tea, and should be diluted before use. Add 2-3 tablespoons of Vermi-Tea to one gallon of water. 

  •  When watering: Use Vermi-Tea as part of your regular watering, ensuring that the entire root zone gets soaked. Add 2-3 tablespoons of Vermi-Tea to one gallon of water. 

  • Foliar application: Apply the tea as a foliar spray by spraying diluted Vermi-Tea on the leaves of your plant. Leaves should be throughly covered with the solution. Add 2-3 tablespoons of Vermi-Tea to one gallon of water. For best results, apply weekly.

Vegetable and Flower Gardens

Vermi-Tea is a concentrated vermicompost tea, and should be diluted before use. Add 2-3 tablespoons of Vermi-Tea to one gallon of water. 

  • When watering: Use Vermi-Tea as part of your regular watering, ensuring that the entire root zone gets soaked. Add 2-3 tablespoons of Vermi-Tea to one gallon of water. 

  • Foliar application: Apply the tea as a foliar spray by spraying diluted Vermi-Tea on the leaves of your plant. Leaves should be throughly covered with the solution. Add 2-3 tablespoons of Vermi-Tea to one gallon of water. For best results, apply in the morning or late afternoon, avoiding direct sun and the hottest part of the day. Apply every 1-2 weeks.

Vermi-Compost

Jory Organics bagged Vermi-Compost

Vermi-Compost is made from 100% worm castings, and passed through a 1/4" sieve to remove larger particles. An excellent soil amendment for any gardening project, Vermi-Compost  is a great addition to a plant potting mixes and garden soils, improving soil structure, boosting nutrient content, and supporting beneficial microbes. 

 

Follow the instructions below for best results.

Potted Plants

  • For New Plants and Repotting: Mix Vermi-Compost with your standard potting mix at a ratio of 10-30%. For most plants, a good starting point is about 1 part Vermi-Compost to 3 parts potting mix. A one quart bag of Vermi-Compost will make one gallon of potting mix.

  • For Existing Plants: Sprinkle a thin layer of Vermi-Compost (about 1/2 to 1 inch) on the surface of the soil around the base of the plant. Gently mix it into the top few inches to avoid disturbing the roots. Repeat every 3-4 months.

Vegetable and Flower Gardens

  • New beds: Before planting, mix vermicompost into the top 2” of the soil. One quart will cover 7-10 sq. ft. of area. After the vermicompost has been incorporated, water the area well to aid in the spread and growth of microorganisms.

  • Planting: Dig a hole three times the size of the potted plant or seedling, placing a large handful of vermicompost at the bottom. Insert the plant into the hole, adding garden soil that has been mixed with vermicompost around the plant. One the plant has been transplanted, water thoroughly.

  • Established plants: Apply as a top dressing, sprinkling a thin layer of vermicompost (about 1/2 to 1 inch) on the surface of the soil. Gently mix it into the top few inches to avoid disturbing the roots. Repeat in mid-summer as plant nutrient needs increase, or during periods of pest or disease pressure.
