Vermicompost for Houseplants

Bring the forest floor to your living room

Why Your Houseplants Will Thrive

Growing houseplants in containers is very different from growing in the ground. Your indoor plants depend entirely on you for nutrition, and most potting mixes lose their nutrients within weeks.

Vermicompost recreates what happens in nature. In their native tropical and subtropical environments, plants feed on decomposing organic matter from the forest floor. Our Portland-made vermicompost brings that natural nutrition to your living room.

Vermi-Tea

With Regular Watering Routine

  •  When watering: Use Vermi-Tea as part of your regular watering, ensuring that the entire root zone gets soaked. Add 2-3 tablespoons of Vermi-Tea to one gallon of water.

  • Foliar application: Apply the tea as a foliar spray by spraying diluted Vermi-Tea on the leaves of your plant. Leaves should be throughly covered with the solution. Add 2-3 tablespoons of Vermi-Tea to one gallon of water. For best results, apply weekly.

  • Sprinkle a thin layer of Vermi-Compost (about 1/2 to 1 inch) on the surface of the soil around the base of the plant.

  • Gently mix it into the top few inches to avoid disturbing the roots.

  • Repeat every 2-3 months.

Method 2: Repotting

  • Mix Vermi-Compost with your standard potting mix at a ratio of 25%.

  • For most plants, a good starting point is about 1 part Vermi-Compost to 3 parts potting mix.

  • A one quart bag of Vermi-Compost will make one gallon of potting mix.
